Training ship Deutschland, Kriegsmarine, 1933, 1: 1250, DeAgostini
The Deutschland (A59) was a ship of the Bundesmarine, the Navy of West Germany. It was built and used as a training cruise ("Schulschiff") in peacetime and planned for multi-role missions in case of war: troop ship, hospital ship, miner and escort. For this reason, the ship was lightly armed due to its size (without guided missiles), the machinery was impractical and diverse, and large teaching rooms were included. In addition, civilians served alongside military personnel. In his time, Deutschland was the largest naval ship in West Germany. The permission to build the ship was granted despite being larger than allowed by the tonnage restrictions imposed by the WEU in West Germany. (The last replacement ships of the Berlin class of united Germany are much larger). Like most post-war German ships, it was completely protected by NBC. Deutschland was the smallest German cruiser since the SMS Brummer and Bremse of 1935 tons of 1915.
