North American B25J Mitchell, 499th Bomber Aquadron, 345th BG, Bettys Dream, 1:72, Corgi
When the operational force of the USS Hornet approached the Japanese coast, they were sighted by an enemy ship and decided to launch their aircraft earlier than expected. At 8:00 on April 18, 1942, sixteen B-25 bombers took off from the relatively short deck of the USS Hornet heading for Japan, this would be the first time these pilots took off from the deck of an aircraft carrier in the sea. Flying at very low level, they had six hours of flight ahead to reach their objectives with the almost total assurance that they would be intercepted by enemy fighters.
