Hawker Hurricane Mk.I, V6799 / SD-X, Pilot K.W Mackenzie, RAF No.501 Squadron, October, 1940, 1:72, Corgi
On October 7, 1940, pilot officer Ken Mackenzie was chasing a damaged Messerschmitt Bf 109 on the South Coast. Having exhausted all his ammunition, he was determined not to let the Luftwaffe fighter return to France. Driving his Hurricane under the 109, he used the tip of his wing to cut the stabilizer of the Messerschmitt, sending it spinning to the sea and taking with it the outer section of its own wing. Then he was attacked by two more 109s and suffered damage to his Hurricane, he only managed to avoid the cliffs near Folkestone and the belly of the plane landed him in the first field he saw. Mackenzie, 24, quickly returned to action and claimed at least seven enemy planes destroyed during the Battle of Britain.
