Fieseler V-1 Doodlebug missile with launching ramp, 1944, Germany, 1:72, Modelcollect
The V-1 was the first of the so-called "weapons of revenge" (V-weapons or Vergeltungswaffen), a series designed to sow terror in London. It was developed at the Peenemünde Army Research Center in 1939 by the Nazi German Luftwaffe during World War II. During the initial development it was known by the codename "Cherry Stone". Due to its limited range, the thousands of V-1 missiles launched in England were fired from launching facilities along the French (Pas-de-Calais) and Dutch coasts. The first V-1 was launched in London on June 13, 1944, a week later, and motivated by the successful Allied landings in Europe. They got to shoot more than one hundred V-1 a day in the southeast of England, 9,521 in total, Later the V-1 went to the port of Antwerp and other targets in Belgium, and 2,448 V-1 were launched. The attacks stopped only one month before the end of the war in Europe, when the last launch site in the Netherlands was invaded on March 29, 1945.
