Destroyer JDS Amatsukaze, (DDG-163), Maritime Self-Defense Force of Japan (JMSDF), 1: 900, Planet DeAgostini
JDS Amatsukaze (DDG-163) was a guided missile destroyer (DDG) of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), and the only ship of its kind. It was the first Japanese surface ship equipped with surface-to-air missiles. It was put into service on October 5, 1963 and decommissioned in 1995. The Amatsukaze was planned as the DDG variant of the previous Akizuki class anti-aircraft destroyers, assembling the missile control system of guided missile systems by Tartar. American. However, the Tartar system proved to be larger than expected, so the Amatsukaze design was completely modified, with an extended hull and a shelter cover design based on the Isuzu class and improved steam turbines. .
