Prince Eugen Heavy Cruiser, Kriegsmarine, 1940, 1: 1250, DeAgostini
The Prinz Eugen was a German heavy cruiser of the Admiral Hipper class, third of a series of five, which served in the Kriegsmarine during World War II. It was laid in April 1936 and launched in August 1938, entering active service after the outbreak of world conflict, in August 1940. It received its name from Prince Eugene of Savoy, Austrian general of the eighteenth century.
The Prinz Eugen was one of the protagonists of the Operation Rheinübung, a German attempt in May 1941 to cut the merchant navigation allied by the Atlantic in which he was accompanied by the battleship Bismarck. Both ships engaged in combat with two British ships, the battle cruiser HMS Hood and the battleship HMS Prince of Wales in what has been called the Battle of the Danish Strait, during which the Hood was sunk and the Prince of Wales severely damaged.
