Transatlantic RMS Queen Mary, Great Britain, 1936, 1: 1250, Atlas
The RMS Queen Mary served mainly in the crossing of the Atlantic between 1936 and 1967 for the shipping company Cunard Line (known as Cunard White Star Line when this ship entered service). Built by the John Brown & Company shipyards in Clydebank, Scotland, it was designed to be the first of the two ocean liners that Cunard Line had planned for express service on the Southampton - Cherbourg - New York route, in response to Europe 's large ocean liners. the 1920s and early 1930s. The Queen Mary was Cunard's flagship from 936 until 1946, when the RMS Queen Elizabeth entered service. The Queen Mary made its maiden voyage on May 27, 1936 and in August of that year took the award known as "Blue Band", which awarded the fastest crossing between both sides of the Atlantic. It lost this title in favor of the French ship SS Normandie in 1937, although it managed to recapture it in 1938, and it remained until 1952 when it was surpassed in speed by the new American transatlantic SS United States.
