The Gneisenau was a warship of the German Kriegsmarine in World War II. Described as both battleship and battle cruiser, it was the second ship of its kind, to which the Scharnhorst also belonged. The ship was built in the Deutsche Werke de Kiel shipyards, where it was put in harrow on May 6, 1935 and launched on December 8, 1936. Completed in May 1938, it was armed with a main battery of nine cannons C / 34 280 mm in three triple turrets, although there were plans to replace these weapons with six SK C / 34 380 mm guns in double turrets.
